Purpose of Role:

To provide excellent customer service to all visitors to the Shaftesbury Theatre by supporting the Senior Bar Supervisor in the day-to-day running of the theatre bars and ensuring consistency of service across all performances. The role acts as the first port of call for customer complaints and queries while on shift, handling them efficiently and effectively and escalating to the Senior Bar Supervisor or Managers where necessary. The postholder supports the supervision and direction of the bar team, leads by example, assists with staffing, training, EPOS and stock management, and works closely with the Front of House team to manage customer incidents. The role also supports compliance with licensing, health and safety and food safety regulations, maintains high standards of cleanliness and maintenance, and advocates for the Shaftesbury Theatre, its aims and activities at all times.

 

You will report to the Senior Bar Supervisor when on shift. Your line manager will be the Head and Deputy Head of Bars & Hospitality.

Duties

 

Customer Service and welcome

Provide excellent customer service to all those visiting the theatre

Work with staff to ensure consistency of service

Oversee the 1911 Bar and others on request, on a daily basis, working 8 shows a week

Act as Cover Senior Bar Supervisor

Maintain a good knowledge of current products, supporting the bar team in communicating these to customers

First port of call for customer complaints and queries, handling them efficiently and effectively and escalating to the Senior Bar Supervisor or Manager where necessary

Work with the Front of House team to flag difficult customer behaviour, ensuring the two teams work together to manage customer incidents

Staffing and Management

Effectively communicate instructions and delegate responsibilities to members of the bar team

Lead the team by example,  offering training and assistance where necessary or escalating to the Senior Bar Supervisor or Manager as appropriate

•           Report any relevant issues within the workforce to the Senior Bar Supervisor or Manager

Compliance

Ensure the bar is compliant at all times with current Licencing, health and safety regulations, food safety regulations, and operated with good practice

Ensure that appropriate measures are adhered to, according to the Weights and Measures Act (1985),  to ensure the health and safety of bar staff and customers

To operate in accordance with the Bars & Hospitality department’s operational manual to ensure efficient and effective operational procedures at all times.

Finance and Stock

Support the Senior Bar Supervisor on any issues with the EPOS system while on shift

Support and advise the Bar team with stock management on shift

Maintenance

Report any maintenance issues to the Senior Bar Supervisor, including malfunctioning of fridges, freezers, glasswashers etc

Ensure that a good standard of cleanliness is maintained throughout the bar area

General

•           Advocate for the Shaftesbury Theatre, its aims and activities

•           Have a good knowledge of the current show

•           Be familiar with and abide by all Theatre of Comedy Policies including, but not limited to, our Equal Opportunities Policy, Sexual Harassment Policy, Electronic Communications and Data Protection Policies and Health and Safety Policy

•           Undertake other duties as appropriate to the post, as requested by the HoD or Senior Management team

 

Personal Specification

 

Experience and Knowledge

•           Experience of working in Bars, theatre or hospitality in general

•           Great knowledge of the F&B industry and its products

•           Prior experience in a senior supervisory role(desirable)

•           Knowledge of Health and Safety and licensing legislation (desirable)

Skills

•           Excellent customer service skills

•           Demonstrable leadership skills

•           Effective communication skills

Personal Attributes

•           A willingness to learn, implement and practice new procedures

•           Ability to approach conflict with a calm demeanour, allowing for diplomacy

Qualifications

Food Hygiene Level 3 (desirable)

Personal licence holder (desirable)
